The Pushchino Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) – one of the leading Russian Research Centers in Biology and Chemistry – every year invites Young Scientists and Researchers to the School Conference "Biology - the Science of the 21 Century" to Pushchino (Moscow Region). In this year it event was organised under the auspices of the International BioForum 2014.
For the second time Pushchino Research Center RAS (PRC), the Administration of Pushchino, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research together with East-West Science Center (OWWZ) at Kassel University, coordinator of the German-Russian Cooperation Network Biotechnology, organized a special Russian-German session (on April 23rd) at the International BioForum 2014. The event was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German House for Research and Innovation, Moscow. The main objective of the bilateral session was to give young scientists from both countries a platform for presenting and discussing their recent research work and open chances for networking.

During the poster and oral section of the conference young participants from various German and Russian research institutions presented the results of their investigations in the areas of biotechnology and chemical biology. The works of the Russian young scientists were conducted in M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University; Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Biophysics of RAS; Institute of Cell Biophysics of RAS; Branch of Shemyakin and Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of RAS; A.N. Bach Institute of Biochemistry of RAS; Nanosystem LTD; Central Research Institute for Epidemiology of the Federal Service on Customers` Rights Protection and Human Well-being Surveillance. On the German side the works were performed in Juelich - Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry; University of Osnabrueck and Kassel University.
The conference attracted up to 80 students, docs and postdocs. The German participants used the chance to visit the Institute for Biological Instrumentation - Laboratory of new methods in biology and the Institute of Cell Biophysics - Laboratory of Molecular Cell Physiology. In the post processing of the activity all German participants expressed their positive impressions and the comfortable atmosphere provided by the Russian hosts [“.. a very worthwhile and enlightening journey that got rid of many prejudices..”]. OWWZ will further support the new connected contacts.
